Sascha: Hallo, wie sieht's aus in Algerien?
Lelahel: Hi, hier ist alles bestens. Wir hatten gerade einen Gig in Algier. Es war eine fantastische Show. Wir haben seit beinahe zwei Jahren nicht mehr dort gespielt.
Sascha: Ihr habt ja gerade eine Crowdfunding-Kampagne gestartet. Könntest Du uns etwas darüber erzählen?
Lelahel: Ja, wir haben am 04.04.2016 ein Crowdfunding auf der Indiegogo-Seite gestartet, das immer noch läuft. Der Großteil der Kohle wird benötigt, um die Kosten für das Cover-Artwork, die Produktion des Albums, ein Video und Band-Merch zu decken. Im Gegenzug erhält der Spender/Käufer schöne Sache von uns, wie z.B. T-Shirts, Hoodies, CDs, Poster, Sticker, Pins und anderes Zeug. Darüber hinaus wird es neben dem normalen Merch auch eine signierte Redouane Aouameur 8 strings guitar made by Siggi Braun, ein RG electronics LELAHELL BB Preamp Pedal, Gast-Auftritte auf unserem neuen Album und ein Privatkonzert zu erwerben geben. Fans und Unterstützer können alles hier abchecken!
Sascha: Ist die neue CD eigentlich schon fertig?
Lelahel: Lass uns sagen, sie ist beinahe fertig. Wir planen, in ein paar Monaten aufzunehmen. Wir werden sehen, wie die Kampagne endet, und danach buchen wir einen Slot in den berühmten Hertz-Studios.
Sascha: Wie wird die neue Scheibe denn so klingen? Ich habe gehört, es wird dieses Mal etwas mehr in die traditionelle Richtung gehen?
Lelahel: Unsere neue Scheibe "Alif" wird in den Riffs mehr ethnische Einflüsse haben, zumindest mehr als auf dem Vorgänger. Und es wird komplexer in den Arrangements und im Drumming sein.
Sascha: Ihr habt ja bereits einige größere Shows gespielt (z.B. Malta Deathfest). Wie war's denn so?
Lelahel: Wir haben mittlerweile drei Europa-Tourneen gehabt und an drei großen Festivals teilgenommen: dem Skullkrusher Deathfest in Paris, dem Malta Death Fest 3 und dem Mini Merciless Fest 3 in Polen. Alle Auftritte waren großartige Erfahrungen und halfen uns, unsere musikalischen Fähigkeiten zu verbessern. Das Publikum war großartig, wir haben starkes, positives Feedback bekommen und eine Menge Merch verkaufen können.
Sascha: Wie seid Ihr denn überhaupt mit Eurer bisherigen Karriere zufrieden? Ihr habt's doch bestimmt nicht leicht als Death Metal-Band in Nordafrika?
Lelahel: Es ist ok. Es war anfangs sehr schwierig, aber jetzt sind wir mehr auf die europäische Metalszene fokussiert. Wir haben eine Dokumentation über meine 23-jährige Karriere gemacht, die sich "Highway to LELAHELL" nennt. Sie ist online auf unserem Youtube-Channel: Da kannst Du Dir anschauen, wie hart es anfangs war, solche Musik in unserem Land zu spielen.
Sascha: Schon mal darüber nachgedacht, nach Europa oder so auszuwandern?
Lelahel: Jetzt gerade nicht, aber wir werden sehen, was die Zukunft so bringt.

Lelahel: Hi there. Everything is fine. We just finished a concert here in Algiers. It was an amazing show! We hadn't played there since almost two years!
Sascha: You guys just started a crowdfunding campaign. Could you tell us something about it?
Lelahel: Yes, we started a crowdfunding on Indiegogo platform the 4th of April 2016, and it is still running. The majority of funds needed are intended to help cover the costs of album artwork, production of the album, production of a music video and band merchandise. In exchange for donating to the campaign, contributors can receive very nice LELAHELL rewards including t-shirts, hoodies, CDs, posters, stickers, pins and other collateral. Sascha: Is the new CD already finished?
Lelahel: Let's say that it is almost finished. We have planned to record in a few months. We will see how the campaign will end. And after that we’ll book a slot in the famous Hertz studio.
Sascha: How will the new songs sound like? I heard it will be more traditional this time?
Lelahel: Our new album "Alif" will include more ethnic influences in the riffs of course, more than the previous album. And it will be also more complex in the arrangements and drums.
Sascha: You played some bigger shows in the past (e.g. Malta Deathfest). How was it?
Lelahel: Actually we have made three Euro tours and participated in three great fests: Skullkrusher Death Fest in Paris, Malta Death Fest 3 and Mini Merciless Fest 3 in Poland. All those gigs were amazing experiences and helped us to improve our musical skills. The audiences were amazing, we got strong positive reactions and selled a lot of merch!
Sascha: Are you guys ok with your career so far? It's hard to play death metal in Northern Africa, isn't it?
Lelahel: Yes, we are ok, it was really difficult in the beginning, but now we are more focused in the European metal scene. We have made a documentary about my 23 years of career called "Highway to LELAHELL". It is online in our youtube channel. You will see how it was hard in the beginning to play such music in our country!
Sascha: Did you ever think about moving? To Europe or somewhere else?
Lelahel: Not for the moment, but we'll see what's gonna happen in the future.
